How to play ukulele in front of an audience

ukulele & guitar tricks

MUSIC TEACHER BLOG

I play the ukulele and guitar better at home than in front of an audience.

Actually, it's a quite common problem. When we play for ourselves, we sound better than when we play for an audience (parents, spouse, or on stage). It happens.
  1. Understanding the ultimate goal. Often, students come to practice "for themselves." It is important to have a clear understanding of the specific outcome. For example, playing song from start to finish, creating a sensation in a group, playing favorite music, improving sound production, enhancing coordination, learning teaching methodologies, enjoying and appreciating the sounds, and so on. In this case, there are chances to achieve the set goal.
  2. Consistent practice sessions. It is crucial not to take long breaks; otherwise, you will have to start from scratch every time.
  3. Completing short assignments. It is beneficial to reinforce the material covered through independent practice.
  4. Maintaining a positive mindset. Focus on what you accomplished during the lesson and give yourself credit for it. More challenging elements will come with time.
